This portrait, done for a patron in Indiana, depicts her deceased father’s strong, gnarled hands. A Navy veteran born in 1924, he worked as a machinist before settling into a career as an electrician. I’m told his hands were crooked from getting caught in machinery, from sports injuries, and the occasional bar fight. I put together this picture from a variety of visual and verbal accounts, using his grandson’s hands as a starting point.
