A view from inside the game: I put my chin on the table and stared across a chessboard, trying my best to paint the pieces as they appear through my whole field of vision. It seems impossible to sense the place of it all, more so the farther we get from the center. It’s a metaphor for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the concern I have of a wider, stranger conflict to come.
