Apollo with Muses

$7,800.00

Oil and 23k gold leaf on carved plywood:

63" x 26.5" x 5"

Apollo is the Ancient Greek and Roman god of light. I depict the god here like a movie projected through a curtain. As light, he is also truth, balance, and calm in the face of chaos. He leads the muses. Apollo is almost always depicted as a blond white dude, but when I considered who has to act most like Apollo in our culture, I asked my friend and lifting partner Denario Jenkins, a black man, to pose. This piece premiered at Purdue University’s main gallery right before COVID.
