Oil on carved plywood: 36" x 47" x 1.2"
I carved and painted two slightly different portraits of Neptune, Roman god of water, as part of a neuroscience experiment conducted at Purdue University in early 2020. The model is a former Marine, a strong middle-aged man who now travels the world as a safety specialist. Neptune is the god of seaborne adventure, so—following today’s cultural norms—I built his image out of hashtags.
